Every spring comes and peach flowers blossom,
The old scholar was seen
Who displays ink and red paper
To give calligraphy to many passing by people

As a matter of fact, Vietnamese people always visit calligraphers to ask for parallel sentences which are believed to bring luck to their home and their children. Not only does this custom reflect the respect to the knowledge of Vietnamese people, but it also helps preserve a time-honored activity.

People normally ask these old calligraphers to give them some particular characters, which show their wishes and dreams for the coming year. Phuc (Happiness), Loc (Wealth), Tho (to be long-lived), Duc (Virtue), Tri (Knowledge) or Tai (Talent) are preferred by Vietnamese people. People then hung these characters on walls as a driving force and a reminder.
