First international puppetry festival to take place in Hanoi
The first international puppetry festival will be held in Hanoi from February 16 to 23 with the aim to introduce the Vietnamese puppetry art regional and world audiences.
Participants will come from Belgium, Brazil, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Israel, Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, and Thailand besides host Vietnam.
According to Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh, deputy head of the Art Performance Department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, five Vietnamese troupes will compete in the festival. They include the Central Puppet Theatre, the Thang Long Puppet Theatre, and the puppet troupes of Haiphong, Dak Lak and HCMC.
Each troupe will bring to the contest a performance programme from 30 to 40 minutes. There are seven genres up for competition, including water, rod, string, hand and shadow puppetry.
